How You Can Help Destroy the eBay DSR System
I hate to write these type of posts, I really do. It’s a balance of necessity and anger, anger which will undoubtedly pour down on me from those I’m targeting with the post.
Who’s today’s target? No surprise, eBay. See, about a month ago, eBay decided to start temporarily banning sellers over the Detail Ratings System (DSR), if their scores fall below 4.1/5.0. And, by temporarily, I mean anywhere from 30 days to a full year.
Only a very small percentage of eBay buyers leave Detailed Seller Ratings. Those are the five star optional ratings that appear below a feadback window for a buyer. Most buyers don’t think they matter, and thus, don’t leave them. Of course, this system is ridiculous if it winds up barring sellers… under eBay’s vision (or lack thereof), an 80% positive rating in any one of five areas, translates into a failing grade. This type of groupthink is why I find most curved grading systems to be morally objectionable.
So, what can I do? Easy… tell you how to break the system. I want you to leave positive feedback, but give each and every seller one star on every detailed rating. Harsh? You bet. But, it will only take a small portion of eBayers to make massive waves. Remember, most don’t leave detailed ratings, that makes you exponentially more powerful in devastating a seller’s detailed seller rating.
And, we want to devastate those ratings. We want massive hemorrhages of seller bans to happen at once. Doing so will cause a shell shock to the system. eBay sellers will unleash complaints that will lock up eBay’s phones for months to come (literally… they won’t be able to sell their inventory, all they can do is call eBay to complain).
Hopefully eBay will learn their lesson quickly, and remove the DSR system. Even if this is effective though, I don’t see eBay doing that. Instead, I see them dropping the ban-able DSR level to something like two out of five stars. More reasonable, but still a mess for eBay.
Oh, and in case you were wondering about retaliation from sellers… there isn’t any anymore. eBay took away seller’s ability to leave negative feedback, in another moronic move. So, the worst a seller can do is not leave feedback on you as a buyer… and to that, I say, who cares?

i whole-heartedly agree with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was thinking of this the other day haha good idea
what happens if u make another account once your unable to list? does ebay track it and suspend you?
Right now, eBay says that they can suspend all your accounts, and it is indeed a violation. It is not clear how much eBay is enforcing this right now.
That said, DSR’ed (new term?) eBay sellers have told me that it does make very clear to them (when they try to list another item) that they aren’t allowed to use another account to get around this.
Was thinking once u see your dsrs low can’t you close your ebay account and make new one so you don’t get blocked from listing and just never use the old account
According to eBay, you can’t make a new account to fix the ban on the old one. They do have the ability to cross-reference your contact information, address, etc… so that’s not really a viable option to fully work around the rule.
Thanks a lot. This idea will do nothing but ruin some innocent sellers. ebay doesn’t give a rat’s patootie about sellers, so your little one-star tantrum will do no good. Way to ruin some people’s Christmas, *******.
Hey chris what I mean is if you are like on the edge on the dsr ratings but not blocked from listing yet just cancel that account or don’t list anymore on it and just use another account isn’t that a way around it
That’s certainly an option for sellers with low DSRs. Another option would be to sell some cheap things, with quick ship times in order to artificially boost your rank.
Of course, doing that just helps eBay advertise that the DSR levels are fine, and that perpetuates the artificiality of the system.
It really depends on the situation that the seller is in, how many feedbacks they have accumulated, and what their DSR status is.
What an idiotic idea. Lets go murder a few people to make the government outlaw guns. And besides, getting above a 4.1 is dead-easy, unless you are doing something very wrong.
Chris ~ I have to believe this was written tongue-in-cheek. Nonetheless, it seems that some folks are taking your post dead seriously. When it comes to one’s finances and survival in this economy, sly humor is often misinterpreted.
At least you’ve accomplished getting the attention of other bloggers. I’ll bet your numbers really jumped this week.
I am one of the sellers that got restricted because of my shipping category. All of my other categories are well above the level needed. I only sell once or twice a month so I have to be rated on the 12 month period instead of the 30 day. If you don’t get 10 dsr’s a month they use 12 month rating. My shipping times have never been more than 10 days. But since there are no concrete standards for shipping the rating is left to the buyer to decide what a long time is. I started buying a lot on eBay and leaving 1 star no matter how long it took to get here. I started doing that before I read this but I am glad there are some other people thinking the same as me. If it isn’t here in 2 days then I have determined that is a long time. Call me bitter but eBay is now a joke. I know this won’t make much of a difference but it makes me feel better.
Count me in on this 100%! I have been with ebay for over 6 years buying and selling. I have 100% feedback rating for my 6 years on ebay. I have above 3.7 ratings and was suspended. The problem is with preception. Is 3-5 days a long time, I think not. 7-10 days? I think not, I think this is average which would deserve a 3 rating. Doesn’t mean bad or disappointing but just a normal transaction. Same with communication and all the other categories. I used to rate 1 for poor, 2 for poor but could be worse 3 normal transaction 4 for yeah I got it quick or they did something I don’t expect, 5 for wow I ordered today and got tomorrow and it had extra stuff I never expected.
Let me also say those sellers who think this is crap and effects your personal pockets take a moment to think about how it effects someone with 100% feedback and 6 years of solid history. To me this is like saying you have 1 item in your grocery cart so go back to the line we want to deal with those who are have the most in there cart and maybe we’ll get to you.
I am very disheartened by this policy and question whether or not I will every continue to use ebay after all after waiting 1 year I will have adjusted and used other avenues or no longer depend on them. So long story short, if you want a good rating from me better get to me the same day otherwise I am disappointed.
Target CERTAIN sellers.
Like Uncle_Griff who is ebay’s number one apologist for this crappy system. He currently only has 11 stars so a couple on 1s would devastate him.
screw ebay, this dsr syatem is bs, and booger u say this idea will ruin innocent sellers? but it was ebay that installed this crap system in right so who’s really runing them? isn’t it ebay for allowing people to screw with people’s rating and not allow them to list?? and to frog, how do u figure it’s dead easy to get a 4.1 since all the feedback u accomulated over years don’t count and they just base things on a month rating and especially if not alot people rate u and then when the few people that do rate u bad and it messes u up
I just ordered something from QVC and they said it won’t arrive until December 19th. I wish I could give them 1 star rating. LOL! While you guys are fuming be sure to check out all of the other posts on You Tube about eBay live. There are videos of some of the sellers complaining directly to the firing squad morons eBay sends out to field our complaints. eBay is still a joke. It appears to me eBay is trying its best to defend this change.
Hi folks, please keep it clean. As usual, posts with offensive language will either be edited or removed.
The major flaw here, if this is indeed a serious post, is that such actions would feed right into eBay’s plan.
Bad ratings don’t hurt the mega Diamond-type sellers that Donohoe has the hots for. They are immune to the suspensions, but smaller and seasonal sellers would be driven right off. The same small sellers Donohoe characterizes as “flea market trash.”
If you expect the kicking and screaming of small sellers to even make a blip in Donohoe’s universe, you haven’t been paying attention.
Donohoe has been bombarded with so much “noise” (from large AND small sellers) since the changes took place that he is now totally deaf. News flash: Don’t expect to see him wearing a hearing aid anytime soon…..
i definitely believe that targeting the big sellers will help, but for this plan to work, it would have to be done in extremely large numbers.
I’ve been doing this since October. It will certainly affect their stupid policy.
The ebay stock price is in the toilet.
TO: FROG and BOOGER
“And besides, getting above a 4.1 is dead-easy”
In an ideal world maybe–If the post office delays the mail due to things like holiday increases in volume and you get a 3 star or if another buyer doesn’t like the fact that you charge a $1.00 handling fee to cover your costs and gives you another 3* then what. YOU CAN”T SELL ANYTHING FOR A MONTH. Some people don’t give a five * rating for anything they buy because they’re so tight-assed –then what? It’s not as easy as you think. This is not a limited problem- it’s affecting hundreds if not thousands of sellers. It is a flawed subjective rating system. It wouldn’t be so bad if there was no suspension policy as a result. ONE STAR FOR EVERYONE NO MATTER WHAT.
I’m on board with this. I think we need to target just the big time sellers. If we go off half-cocked and give 1′s to everyone, the first people to suffer will be the little guys, then eBay will have accomplished their goal. We need to define a “Big Seller”. 500 feedbacks a month? 1000 feedbacks a month?
actually, if everyone purchased something from a new seller and left all ones, the new sellers would be booted @ day 31 and then they would spread the word fast how corrupt eBay is. if eBay goes big box sobeit, as they will have to compete with amazon alike.
someone needs to start another auction co….or craigs alike are fine with me.
Hello everyone. We sell many thousands of items a month on Ebay. Our company has been severely impacted by the new system. We have spent many months trying to recover and we can see the light the end of the tunnel. Yes, we get it! We came to completely understand the DSR system by being lowered in status numerous times and being forced to recover or die.
It took many hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses for us to finally understand how their changes would really impact us. Many sellers fell under. It is sad. I aged fast this year. If we can make it through the first quarter of 2009, I am sure that we will survive.
If you leave us a 1 rating and we deserve a 5, then, you run us the risk of not being able to pay our staff. We have over 20 employees and in making a statement to Ebay, you stand the chance of putting thousands of people in the unemployment line and their companies out of business. That would be a sad day for you, me and our economy. Please reconsider your cause in these harsh financial times. Please, help a neighbor and do what is morally and ethically right. If you are upset with Ebay, please do not take it out on me. If you would like a lesson in how to make Ebay work for you, feel free to email.
Kind Regards,
David
So take out your frustrations on innocent sellers? ******.
IDIOT, you want to screw a random group of sellers just so they will complain for you? believe me they are already complaining..whoever wrote this is a complete jerk
Ebay’s current system is sick and has to be destroyed. Unfortunately good people will go under as well, but you cannot allow a cancerous system to spread uncheck, it must be killed off, even at the expense of the “good innocent” parts. I have to support this plan as otherwise eBay will just let this defective system go on and many more innocent sellers will continue to suffer from the poor flawed rating system. So, yes, I will vote for mass 1 star ratings to kill this flawed system once and for all.
I have to support this plan aswell otherwise eBay will just let this defective system go on and on and more innocent sellers will continue to suffer from this cr*p rating system. So, yes, I will vote for mass 1 star ratings too just so we can all kill this cr*p system once and for all. Also i know you said Chris ” who cares ” (to the not being able to leave negative feedback for buyers), but this also annoy’s me i recently sold an item knowing full well, that it was in full working order and in perfect condition when posted, but had a complaint made against me after a dragged out assortment of conversations with the buyer, him saying it was faulty upon receiving the item, now i have no recourse for action and he got a partial refund from me and left bad feedback for me, many other people he has bought from have also had the same kind of treatment, but neither myself nor anyone else can now do anything. The system should be, “one rule for one ! one rule for all !” but ebay say “one rule for one ! and sellers can naff off” So i say lets all fight back never mind DSR’s or even the pathetic feedback rules its us against Ebay Theres more of us than them !
sorry if it hurts good people but from now on i am going to leave everyone a 1 just because i want to see ebay die. to the guy with the big ebay biz sorry that ebay is screwing you. they screw me to. dishonest people that tell me that my stuff does not work properly so i will give them a partial refund. i hate it. i always tell them that they will not get a dime back unless i see my product back in my hands.
I agree! I was wishing for this to start happening. I have a higher item as described rating than ebay. I have not been able to list for 2 months because my shipping time and my communication are to low. I live in Montana and can only ship once a week due to weather. These SOCAL dips that run the place have never had to shovel 3 feet of snow just to get to the post office. UPS and FED EX wont pick up on residential addresses in our town for the same reason. MR “its easy” and the Jerk with the big company can both rot in hell as far as I am concerned. I agree we have to find a way to make this thing go away. I am getting screwed with the 12 month policy as well. I can trace all this back to 2 buyers who didn’t read my 15 day turn around policy. Just for fun here is ebays office number and fax
Phone: 408-376-7400
Fax: 408-369-4855
I bought and sold on ebay since 2003. I made a meager amount of money selling. When inbetween jobs, it helped supply me with food, rent, gas, and basic everyday living expenses. I knew I couldn’t make a living selling on ebay, so sought to find work. However, in this economy, I found myself laid off…AGAIN! So, back to ebay, only to find that I can not sell anything. Great. No money, no food, no rent, no nothing. I contacted them (ebay) only to have them say, we are terriably sorry about the inconvience, but we can not do anything about it. Perhaps writing to those that gave you negative feedback, and working it out so they change it will help.
Yeah, right. I will get right on that. All of my sales are over 90 days old. Most coming up on one year old, as I was working. I still can’t sell. So, I had to find an alternative way to make money. Now I am pan-handling, hoping to not get arrested, while looking for a job. I got burned on shipping and handling. I have agreed with the leave 1 star yet leave positive feedback. However, unless every buyer out there does this, which I don’t see happening, this won’t work. After all, it has now become a buyers market, and buyers are not going to do this to someone they have had a good experience with.
The DSR is a means to justify the ends. Hopefully soon, it will justify the end of DSR! P.O’ed in Tampa.
This is a Horrible idea. It will only hurt the sellers…
what the ****??? DO YOU REALLY THINK THIS WILL HELP??? Ebay suspended me b/c of this exact same thing! I got about 280 feedback a month and just 30 dsr’s monthly, and my average was 3 stars, enough to suspend a PLATINUM POWERSELLER. They don’t even care! But eBay will figure it out, and I hope it gets hurt really bad and that all the incompetent jerks that run the clown show will pay for what they did. Dumbhoe’s vision for the future clearly shows how badly he is in need of psychiatric help. I rely on eBay to put food on my families table and so did the six others who worked for me, which I had to LAY OFF. eBay has pushed me too far and pissed me off so much that I will personally do everything I can to inform others about the truth in eBay. The day one year ago when I got informed in advance of the stupid changes that took place in april I started so many waves all over the powerseller forums I was banned. Hundreds decided to quit and I hope eBay goes to hell.
Totally stupid, retarded and dumb idea..these are peoples lives we are talking about..your pretty much ruining peoples lives just to get your way..pathetic to me..i mean honestly your making it seem like another holocaust..hitler killed people to get his lil terrible life anger out..come on, lets be mature here..just because they did this doesnt mean you have to go all nuts..all you have to do is have as many people as you can call and send emails and stuff to complain to them..simple as that..otherwise you pretty much just ruined someone job and life on here..congrats..your almost tech. killing the person when espically the economy is like this.
terribleterribleTERRIBLE!
BULLISH BUYERS /LEAVE POSTIVE FEEDBACK AND LOW DSRS / ITS ANOTHER WAY TO HURT THE GUY WHOS TRYIN TO MAKE A FEW BUCKS / BESIDES AFTER SELLER FEES AND PAYPAL FEES AND POSTAGE COSTS
HELL I WILL JUST GIVE MY STUFF AWAY FOR FREE
NEXTIME CRAIGSLIST
I was blocked from selling because a bidder e mailed me and asked if he could pay with a check. i said yes to try to make him happy. it took 5 days to get the check after the auction ended. i got the check on a saturday after work and could not deposit it until monday. i stated to him that the check must clear before shipping. it took about 3 days to clear and when it did i shipped. shipping took 3 days to get to him. he left feedback and said shipping was too long. right after i got his feed back i was banned from selling. i have been selling on e bay for over 8 years and have 650 100% positive feed back and am getting screwed. if e bay reads the feedback they can realy see the sellers that are good and bad. after i was banned i got an e mail from a different bidder saying thanks and said ” i was surprised to get in the mail today” meaning he thought shipping was a lot faster than he expected. why can’t this prove to e bay that i ship fast when the the bidder pays with an instant payment. i did a bidder a favor and was screwed by him and e bay. my advice don’t accept any form of payment execpt instant payment.
Fyi i heard that e bay bought craigs list. not sure if its true or not but it seems that all good things come to an end.
Es, eBay holds a stake in Craigslist, but they are a minority shareholder.
Every year or so there are talks of eBay acquiring Craigslist outright, but they usually are refused by Craigslist quickly.
I have been on ebay almost since it started, I have 989 feed backs 98 % positve, I sold 25 items a month, and when that dsr thing came out I was banned I have 4.8 in every category exept shipping time which is 4.0 and communication 3.9 and I am banned. right now my DSR reporting is 28 . I have been banned for almost 3 months. this system is flawed for sure but doing the single star will hurt way more than ebay it will hurt the sellers ( some rely on it like I did for a living) on one forum it suggested selling .50 cent items giving free shipping, what I had to do was list a item. and offer a free gift with every sell with 5 star DSR. I worked my but off on a new account and guess what it takes real work to keep your dsr up. no more people using EBAy for a hobby. There system is flawed big time,
the STATE of NC will no longer sell on ebay because of the dsr system…hahah, in this economy how could ebay cut out any sourse of revenue?…idiots
chuck, did the new account work.
thanks
Unless you are a big merchant, you can’t make any kind of profit in online auctions anymore. eBay is unusable. The fact is that eBay was the only game in town and now in order to business there you will have to give up well over 50% of whatever you make by the time your through paying the: listing fee, final value fee, paypal fee, S&H, overhead & taxes if you have a store. I saw that the stocks went up a few points today. HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! That’s amazing for a site that nobody is using. There are such massive amounts of corruption on every level at FeePay. Fuck eBay in it’s greedy ass. I hope John Donahoe and Griff die of horrible screaming ass cancer. I loath them. And to those of you losers who still defend them to the bitter end… the same goes for you.
This Posting Has Not Been Checked For Errors – To MAD To Be Concerned
Monthly FLEEBAGBAY fees over $400 – PayMEdirtbag- PAL fees over $800 that tells you how much stuff we sell and these are low price BIG BOX ITEMS over 55 lbs….. stated in our listing shipping is 5 or 10 business from date of payment (always spelled out in the listing) most ship ahead of their intended time….. Rating 99.1% feedback 1 neg 6 months ago from a ZERO feedback bidder trying to scam us for a free item but did not pay…….. 2 netl. from a repeat dealer who did not think it mattered (the netl rating), FLEEBAGBAY won’t let him withdrawl it. Today got the notice SUSPENDED for low DSR 4.1 – 3.9 – 4.0 4.1 some FOOL purchased a BIG color printer paid for it 6 days later then whine about having to pay for it before we ship IT. It is amazing how stupid this company has become. I have a perfect 100% rating… true, I only have 88 ratings all together… this is a new account as we had trouble with ebay before (when we had over 600 ratings at over 99% and they closed our account)… now because most people when given the choice out of a 5 star system, most choose 3, we are now banned with a perfect account. Come on, think about when a critic gives a movie 3 out 5 stars… you think, this might actually be a decent movie… so the average buyer is not going to give 5 stars even if the service is perfect.
I hope this company tanks and somone sets up another decent online auction site that gets serious traffic!
I am completely in. I totally agree with this and I hate it has to be done to innocent sellers but I was an innocent seller and Ebay doesn’t give a crap about my feeling or the fact that I sell large items that simply take longer to ship. I state in my auctions the process and timing and the shipping amount. If a buyer doesn’t agree to those terms then don’t buy. Ebay has created a way for buyers to now manipulate the system with no fear of a negative feedback from a seller. It is very immoral to do what they are doing. I have even been extorted by a buyer recently and Ebay did nothing even when I showed proof. I have been with Ebay since 2001 and I am done. I think the DSR system will be their downfall and I will screw ever seller I buy from just like I have been screwed! I lost my powerseller rating because buyers give me a 4 on ship time which is considered good by ebay standards but brought my DSR rating below 4.5 Which is exactly between good and excellent. But I guess I am a bad seller. Ebay sucks and they are going down.
Hello and I too have been hit by a 3.9 rating on 1 of 4 ratings so I cant list..Now when I look on my ebay I see my ratings are 4.5-4.9 but those ratings dont count you have to go on the dashboard..Ok remove the wrong numbers and give your loyal sellers a 3 month period to get their ratings up!!What a novel idea and to think an idiot like myself can figure this out but no one on ebay can…..frightening
WOW. Great idea. im leaving everyone one star. **** EBAY and their retarded new policies that fuck the buyers over. I just got screwed out of a laptop last week because the buyer disputeed it and it was shipped via parcel post, with no track number. Guess what, i cant leave the scammer negative feedback!!!! GREAT JOB ALL YOU SMART ***** AT EBAY.
To add insult to injury, im now banned from selling because the scammer gave me one star. LOL its almost too good.
I do a lot of selling (and buying) on ebay and for the most part, my feedback is good and DSRs acceptable.
However, over the past year, every single negative rating I received was unjustified and when I spoke to a rep at ebay about each case, each agreed. Of course, there is nothing they can do about it except to offer weasel-word advise.
Believe me, I have spent nights thinking of ways to totally f-up their feedback system.
Frustration and anger have turned into quite resignation that the system is flawed and meaningless and needs to be disregarded.
In regards to DSRs, I know that when I leave feedback, the only time I provide DSRs is when I am either delighted or displeased with some aspect of my purchase and I believe the same is true for most buyers. I hardly have the time to leave feedback let alone associated DSRs.
Here is one solution I believe ebay could utilize to improve their system. When a buyer leaves feedback, default each DSR to a 5 rating and force the buyer to select lower ratings only when he or she believes a lower rating is deserved. I know I would be happier with the results as it will supply a more accurate representation of my true score.
The only way to truly affect ebay is to hit them “where it hurts” in their pockets! This could be done if the majority of all of the small sellers start closing down all of your their ebay accounts and not buying from them anymore at all.
This would force ebay to raise the fees on the large powersellers (they account for around 80% of all of ebay’s revenue). If ebay raises the fees on the large powersellers to make up for the (roughly) 20% of revenues that they would be losing from the small “every day” average sellers, this would cause a “ripple effect”, and alot of the large powersellers would make an exodus from ebay which ultimately would cause ebay to collaspe!
Yes Ebay removed the Seller’s ability to leave negative feedback but I have a workaround. In all of my future auctions I will place within the auction description the following statement:
=== ATTENTION BIDDERS/BUYERS ===
BACKGROUND: Ebay, Inc. has chosen to eliminate the Seller’s ability to leave negative feedback if necessary. While this is Ebay, Inc.’s exclusive right, we (as Seller’s of the item(s) listed herein) do not agree that it is a fair business mechanism to promote transactional satisfaction. It is our intention to ensure that this transaction is completed in as expedient and professional manner as possible, and to ultimately receive positive feedback.
TERMS: By bidding on this auction you, the winning bidder shall accept and agree to the individual Seller terms set forth as follows. “In the event that the winning bidder of this auction significantly fails to complete this transaction in a reasonable time and manner, and should thereafter leave negative feedback of or for the Seller, the Seller shall have the right to post, publish or otherwise make publicly available the winning bidder’s contact information to include name, phone number, EBay ID and the nature of the transaction complaint; all of which is available through the EBay transaction details. The Seller shall have the right to post such information on any number of public websites, including free online seller, buyer and/or posting sites globally available.”
If you do not agree to these terms please do not bid.
So… By bidding the bidder is by de facto in agreement with the release of any such information. There would not be any release of addresses or email addresses.
Craigslist would be the perfect mechanism to post such information, especially given the fact that EBay has sued CL in the past and tried to buy it. The only liability would be to the bidder (for agreeing to the terms by way of bidding) and potentially to EBay.
If every Seller did this EBay would have to re-write their legal umbrella as a corporation and would likely marginalize a large number of sellers to the point that a second venue would eventually develop (much like MySpace gave way to FaceBook).
Never know. .
Can’t do that, MBR. The eBay TOS prevents retaliation, even if the buyer agrees to it. eBay can easily ban you for life, for taking such action.
Thats rediculous crap I sold 1200 worth of stuff in the last 30 days and now after paying an invoice amount of over $265 i cant list more items because of least 4.1 on each DSR to sell I got 25 positive feedbacks this month and no negatives I guess I am going to use http://www.multi-sale.com they are twitter enhanced and state each item I list uses the twitter api thing and is posted to my twitter page how cool.
Hello, I just thought of something to do about DSR’s… I mean if 2 e-bayers decide to sell something to eachother for a nominal price .01$ and agree to leave eachother 5 star ratings…… and as a bonus screw paypal into processing a .01 transaction …is there a limit on dsrs between e-bay members… a thought.
It seems that most people dont pay attention to leaving dsr’s but a few a**holes use dsrs as revenge.
Another thought … is there any way to rate buyers by … the amount of neg feedbacks left, non paying activity? other bad behavior? This could be posted at an external website, and sellers could import the eBay id’s into their blocked bidder list.
I just had a jerk claim that an item I sold was damaged (DOA)..instead of contacting me he filed with paypal, I ended filing a fedex claim (Which was denied)..this sleazeball claimed to have filed lots of fedex claim… he then offered to make things “easier” for me if I were to refund $200 for repair. He personally contacted Fedex for a “call tag (to avoid himself paying reverse ship) and the punch line… after a month .. I received the item, a little beat up but in perfect working order.
I’m out at least $100 and
Paypal and Ebay offer no recourse….
I would love to put this guy on an eBay sh**list..
I have begun to absolutely despise Ebay and I wholeheartedly hope that some other online auction company destroys Ebay’s business. Must be a bunch of sissy politically correct morons running it.
Ebay is acting this way because they have no other competition. It is up to sellers to use mediums such as Facebook and Twitter to make complains. Once the complains becomes much there will be a media source will make it public. Once Ebay business practice becomes notoriously popular it will get somone with funds to start a effective auction site knowing there are so many seller who will cross over from ebay to the new site.
Once ebay notice sellers are leaving they’ll adjust thier ways of business. It has become very frustrating to trade on ebay…They’ll soon learn once something new opens..Keep twittering about ebays false business ways and a group of attorneys somewhere will find a way to purge ebay.
Just choose a Worldwide Ebay sellers complain day and everyone bombards twitter & facebook about Ebay complains and it will make news.
WARNING, DO NOT DO THIS!
The best way to go about something is being proactive. What are you pro for? Not anti against? Mother Teressa never attended an anti war rally…but she would go to a pro peace rally.
What are you pro for? This way only ruins it for all the sellers. If you are angry with ebay take it up with them, not with the sellers who put their heart into the game because of a few disgruntled ones.
I do not work for ebay.
ebay one day is going to piss the wrong person off.

surly it can’t be safe working for ebay or paypal
DSRs are completely bogus. Ebay pulls a seller’s DSRs out of thin air. DSRs DO NOT reflect the numbers buyers actually leave.
Ebay arbitrarily decides each month how many 5%, 15%, and 20% discounts they want to hand out. Ebay then fudges each seller’s DSRs to go with the number of discounts handed out.
So Ebay adjusts an actual 4.8 to a 4.7. Whatever Ebay needs to ensure only so many sellers get a discount that month.
How the DSR system destroyed our Gold poweseller business in three weeks:
We were selling between £900-1600 worth a week, we were gold rated with averages of 4.95.
Ebay brought in the order handling time, we filled it in, saying it took us 3 days in addition to the shipping time, a total of 5 days as we make to order. Then the DRS’r came in, the customers down see the handling time, just the shipping service you are using. They give you poor DSR’s because they expected shipment with 2days. Our shipping DSR has dropped to 4.2 from 4.9, ebay have not banned us but even worse, backlisted us. This means all our listings are at the very back page no matter when the end time is. So we have taken £200 this week, from £1600 normally, this have been going on for three weeks. Ebay are still taking the fee’s though. So our previous service counts for nothing. We are going to have to shut our ebay site and look elsewhere.
Ebay doesn’t change anything unless they are sued. If you want to fight for something sue them. I mean the dsr’s can’t be seen and even a person accused of a crime gets to see thier accuser. It’s unamerican and is opening us up to people buying a 1.00 item just so they can ruin our feedback. I have nothing but positives and a perfect 5 for the last year but then for a month they go and say someone just left low on something. I think ebay is doing this they even say your not allowed to ask a buyer about the stars. Why? Because they themselves ding the stars. They will kick you off if you ask a buyer if they left less than 5 stars.
If you go dinging peoples stars you will only hurt them. What an idiot. So I work my butt off to be an honest seller and someone just buys something so they can ding my stars in hopes of it crashing the star system. When has ebay crashed or changed anything. They don’t care about the sellers just money. That is why people who sell more it doesn’t matter how bad thier feedback it. You need to not harass people like that !
why dont everyone start a donation $$ REWARD PRICE for hackers and terroists to attack ebay? i’m sure the reward price will attract many hackers and terroist. The goal is to destroy ebay headquater, and get that ******* CEO of our sellers life.
IGNORANT THREAD
YOU WOULD ACTUALLY BE HELPING EBAY BY POSTING 1′s TO SMALL SELLERS. …ITS EBAYS PLAN TO RID THEMSELVES OF ANNOYING SMALL SELLERS. WHY HELP THEM?
I HAVE BEEN SELLING/BUYING ON E-BAY ON & OFF; BUT I HAVEN’T BEEN IMPRESSED WITH E-BAY SINCE DAY ONE. I MEAN, APPARENTLY E-BAY MAKES IT A PARADISE SHOPPING MALL FOR BUYERS, THEY ARE THE ONES THAT COMPLAINT THE MOST & HAVE TO DO THE LEAST. IT IS CALLED BUYING POWER, E-BAY WANTS TO ENSURE POTENTIAL BUYERS COME BACK TO E-BAY TO SHOP, BUT AT THE TOKEN THEY ARE MAKING IT A NIGHTMARE FOR ANYONE OF US TRYING TO SELL AND STAY AFLOAT. I HAD SOME TERRIBLE, PROBABLY THE WORST SELLING EXPERIENCES ON E-BAY. YES, YOU MAKE A SOME MONEY, YES YOU GET MORE VIEWS FROM PEOPLE YOU WILL PROBABLY NEVER KNOW, BUT BOTTOM LINE IS; E-BAY DOES NOT GIVE A RAT’S *** ABOUT THEIR SELLERS, ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE SMALL SELLERS. I HAVE BEEN UPSET, DISGUSTED WITH A LOT OF THEIR RULES & PRACTICES; BUT THIS DSR SYSTEM??? EVERYONE SHOULD READ UPON THEIR “STRICTER POLICY” ON THE FOLLOWING LINK: http://pages.ebay.com/sell/July2009Update/Details/index.html#1-5 ; I BELIEVE LIKE CHRIS, IT’S A JOKE. TRULY I WILL NOT BE SELLING MY STUFF ON E-BAY SINCE IT IS FOR US BENEFICIAL TO CHANGE THIS STUPID POLICY WHICH DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE. EITHER THAT OR CREATE A NEW SITE & GET ALL OF THE BUSINESS SWITCHED OVER TO A NEW, FRESH SITE.
I am the latest victim of this hackneyed approach. In implementing the new DSR system eBay also raised listing fees and stated that the differential increase can be refunded to their top rated sellers as a rebate. It took me some time to adjust, but prior to Dec I was averaging 4.95-5.00 DSR status. With this high level of buyer satisfaction I typically got a rebate from eBay of $300 – $500 per month. In the past month I have received over a dozen positive feedbacks with 1′s DSR values. Even though these account for less than 1% of my transactions and does not currently threaten my account for suspension it did eliminate my eligibility for the rebate thus giving eBay an additional $500 in profits. I understand most peoples anger about the new DSR system, but you must recognize that the victims of your malice do have a face and it is not just eBay. This strategy cannot be sustained long term without eBay having a countermeasure, thus all consequences will be short term making eBay more profits and driving away sellers selling items at reasonable prices that you are obviously interested in buying. If you wonder what the eBay countermeasure will be I would look toward Amazon marketplace. Lets not be the ones who make that the only profitable alternative

Sorry but this new DSR thing is BS! I have a 99.9% feedback and an average DSR rating of 4.90 but my S/H has a 2.64% 1 and 2 rating which will put me out of bizz if this goes into effect. My DSR for S/H is 4.78 today. This is a bunch of BS! I paid eBay and PayPal almost $30,000 in fees last year and this is how I am thanked! Whata kick to the #&%#&#* by eBay AGAIN!!!
This DSR system is really absurd!! I am handicapped, so I stipulate a 15 business day handling time. Buyers don’t bother reading this stipulation, and write me about where their package is, and why it wasn’t mailed yet. This after only 7 days. Then they rate my shipping time low, and I therefore get punished by Ebay, even though I have shipped item within the stated shipping time. Everything Ebay does is unfair to the seller, and after all, it is the seller that pays the insertion fees, final value fee, and PayPal fee. Without sellers, Ebay wouldn’t exist. It seems to get worse everyday! Thanks for letting me vent.
I totally agree with the article. As a Platinum Powerseller on eBay, these rules have made it impossible for me to sell. I sell the same products I’ve sold ten years ago, and sales are stronger and better then ever, but with eBay’s new system, I’ve had to implement a 12% increase in price to cover eBay fees, PayPal fees, and the cost to put a feedback sticker into each and every order, requesting the buyer’s NOT to leave low DSR’s, and yet it STILL happens, regardless of how good of a show I put on.
Either way, I have looked into the different types of auctions sites, and though I was skeptical at first as well, I have found a GREAT outsource for selling my products. “onlineauctions.com” has a WONDERFUL program, and it has a great plan for the future. The “founding members” are guaranteed to never see a fee increase, and in fact there are no fees, just $96 a year — which is about 10% of what I pay eBay EACH AND EVERY MONTH.
Do yourself a favor, check out onlineauctions.com and refer your friends. This is the declaration of cyber independence!
The best thing to do woudl be to give everybody 5 stars on every transaction. That would not put anybody out of business and it would not help Ebay get rid of the smaller sellers.
By rating everyone with 1 star you are doing Ebay’s dirty work for them.
Rating all 5′s will make the DSR’s irrelevent, which may eventually cause Ebay to abandon them.
A key component of the rating all 5′s strategy is to make sure Ebay knows that is happening. They will know, trust me. They read the blogs and see the YouTube videos. You can make sure this happens by spreading the word on Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Another thing you can do is to include information on the DSR’s in communications to buyers and, more importantly, in product/transation reviews solicitied by Ebay. I have been contacted several times to review my transaction and I always include comalints on the DSR’s and an explanation of how bad the system is.
Hey, they wanted my feedback…..
If a buyer consisently leaves 1′s, ebay can hold suspend them from buying. Using feedback improperly will get you suspended. Don’t get yourself kicked off ebay and hurt innocent sellers by doing such a stupid thing as leaving all 1′s. Bad idea.
If the seller is small, then I always rate Full 5 DSR’s and Positive. If the seller is one of the giant “diamond” sellers who don’t pay any fees (like the one called “BUY”), then I rate then an instant Negative with all 1′s even on a flawless transaction.
eBay wants to become an online Wall-mart by destroying the small sellers. Let’s help the small sellers, and only wreck the big sellers!
if you want good dsr ratings.. then you need to be proactive with your ebay responsibilities… please dont leave 1 star ratings on good sellers.. that is hurtful
It is a computer it can be beat. I got suspended for low DSR so I simply emailed all buyers that have not left feedback yet urging them to leave a good DSR and bing I am back on ebay a few days later without so much as an email from ebay. Ebay makes this easy since it groups “awaiting feedback” a bit tedious though.
