Unfortunately I have an Alienware laptop and my firmware on my two 500GB XTs is “DEM3” which I am guessing Dell had their hands in on. When I try to run the update utility from Seagate I get an error when it trys to update the drives. Any workaround for this?

P.S. – My model is ST95005620AS on both drives.

The only official workaround is to beg Dell to quickly incorporate those fixes into an update of your own. There are ways to leverage the firmware update tool to force firmware updates, but that hasn’t been tested on OEM drives AFAIK.

And I wouldn’t suggest it either, odds are Dell wants these drives updated pronto if their firmware has the same corruption issues. Still, I’d email Dell public relations for an official word on the status of the firmware if I were you.

bit late but you can force the firmware update with the -x flag (check the forums for the correct flag but it may brick your SSHD), but it shouldn’t brick it as the ST95005620AS is an official seagate retail model number and have not made OEM specific SSHD
