What About Tiger? What About Apple TV?
Tiger and Apple TV will put Apple in an interesting situation, once Snow Leopard comes out.
See, Apple has a house rule on product lifespan. Only the prior, major, release of Mac OS X is to be supported. That means that if a device can’t be upgraded to the last version of Mac OS X, it [...]
Apple: We’ll Never Fix Time Machine Over AirPort Disk
Apple today confirmed to me, that despite past indications, they will never fix Time Machine over AirPort Disk, when using an AirPort Extreme.
This is a stark contrast to Steve Jobs’ own comments when Mac OS X Leopard was unveiled. “AirPort Extreme is the perfect backup solution for Leopard.” His words. Now that Time Capsule is [...]
Apple Regrets Scrapping Leopard Feature
There’s one feature that Apple, I’ve learned, really regrets scrapping from Leopard.
Originally, Time Machine had a lot of additional features which didn’t make the final cut. One of the features was to use the free disk space on the boot drive as shadow copy storage. This mimicked a feature from Vista that does the same [...]
Safari 3.1, A Good Thing
Safari 3.1 is out. This update makes a couple of big changes. First, Safari for Windows is now out of beta. Second, it brings Windows, Mac (Tiger & Leopard) builds into true sync… oh, and by sync, I mean they’re all much faster and in parity with one-another.
I’ve been testing Safari 3.1 since it was [...]
Spaces and .Mac Sync Bug - Lost Windows
Apple has posted a support article confirming that if you use .Mac Sync and Spaces, you might lose windows.
Basically, the bug occurs if two computers have Spaces, but different Spaces settings. Say, one computer has two spaces, and the other has four. If one computer has a window in fourth space, it won’t show up [...]
Yes, Secure Erase Trash is Broken in Leopard
If you’re like me, sometimes you get info that prying eyes might just want to see. Thankfully, there’s Secure Erase Trash in Leopard, which will cover the drive with zeros such that the data would be extraordinarily difficult, if not impossible to recover.
However, it’s simply not working in Leopard. Every time I run it with [...]
10.5.1 Fixes eSATA & SATA Cards
If you upgraded to Leopard, and found your eSATA (or SATA) card stopped working… install the 10.5.1 update. My eSATA card (like many others) stopped working upon being updated to Leopard, and 10.5.1 has fixed that. It appears Apple re-added third-party SATA drivers that were removed in 10.5.0.

I’m becoming tired of a bug that has surfaced in Leopard. It was present in Tiger but not nearly as bad. Essentially, I cannot enter the password to unlock my screen… without re-typing it at least once.
I have a long password for security’s sake… it’s what Apple suggests and I agree. The problem is, for [...]
Mac Brings Network Neighborhood Back
Remember in old versions of Windows how Network was called Network Neighborhood? It was a cute name added to make networking appear more friendly. Of course, people found it rather… lame, and so Microsoft truncated it to Network, matching Mac OS X yet again.
But now it appears Apple has added a bit of an Easter [...]
Another Back to My Mac Gripe
As much as I like Back to My Mac, despite its security hurdles that users must jump through… it has one thing that prevents me from using it. Ports!
Back to My Mac uses standard ports, ports for SSL and IPSec communication. Problem is, if you already have those ports routed, you cannot use the service [...]
