    Minor MobileEdition Delay

By Christopher Price on May 8, 2009

Apple gave all iPhone developers some additional work to submit new apps, and we weren’t expecting that on launch week. So, MobileEdition will be delayed for additional testing… only by a couple of days (not counting the weekend). We still expect the first MobileEdition-powered sites to be in Apple’s hands by mid-week. In case you’re [...]

Lies, Damned Lies, and Monday Morning Quarterbacking

By Christopher Price on April 24, 2009

Let’s rewind a few days. Back when we started talking about HD on iPhone. The web site MacRumors posted coverage of our article, but the last paragraph pretty much sent the time into outrage. The last paragraph read: “PhoneNews.com has not been a regular source of Apple rumors and their last try wasn’t accurate.” Immediately [...]

MobileEdition Was Down, Just a Glitch

By Christopher Price on April 12, 2009

The MobileEdition site did go down about 24 hours ago. No, it isn’t because of Apple, and no, MobileEdition is not vaporware. The problem happened because of two MobileEdition servers (one in prototype mode, and one in realtime mode) getting confused about who was in control of the web. And, the two sorta wiped each [...]

    It’s Almost Over…

By Christopher Price on April 8, 2009

This four-day cold has been awful. This has to be the worst thing to hit me in over a year. Mixed blessing… but, this was really a bad one. Worse, it spread to some of the staff before I quarantined myself. But, it’s almost over. We’re still running the numbers on MobileEdition. I don’t want [...]

    Liveblog of a Product Announcement

By Christopher Price on April 2, 2009

I’ve decided to try something new. We’re going to post a liveblog of all the stuff going on behind-the-scenes when announcing a new product. The catch is, we’re not actually going to talk about the product. Stay tuned at 10 AM for that. So, if you think this is all easy… take a seat. Members [...]

    About that New Mobile App…

By Christopher Price on March 29, 2009

As you may have read already on MechaWorks and on PhoneNews.com… MechaWorks will be launching its first mobile app on Thursday. I will drop one more tidbit. As I alluded to on PhoneNews.com, it isn’t what you are thinking. We are not launching PhoneNews.com for iPhone. I know we announced that in the past, and [...]

    MechaWorks Moving Update

By Christopher Price on March 19, 2009

The move is almost done. We’ve got a few things left to move… and a lot of stuff set up. The problem is the drive. Things have to stay operational, so it had to be done in chunks. Each drive is a five hour round-trip trek between Sacramento and Silicon Valley. Add in sleep… plus [...]

    Sneak Peek at New Jobs

By Christopher Price on March 4, 2009

We don’t yet have the publishing side of things finished, but the MechaWorks Jobs site is almost done with an overhaul. The jobs we need most right now (software development positions) are now up. Run, don’t walk (but please, don’t forget to read the instructions).

    Trouble in Crunchies Land

By Christopher Price on December 22, 2008

Unfortunately, time is running out for the Crunchies. They’re a week past-due with announcing the nominees, one of which may be MechaWorks. First, the Crunchies team announced that voting would begin last Monday. Then, they announced that voting was delayed, but would begin before the end of the week. Well, next week started… yesterday. Still [...]

    Apple Support Downloads Gets Makeover

By Christopher Price on December 2, 2008

Apple’s Support Downloads area has been completely redesigned. It now features an updated Web 2.0 look, consistent with product-page changes on apple.com in recent months. My favorite feature is the ability to now browse by product. You can quickly, say, drill down to iWork ’08 updates only. I haven’t checked how far back it goes. [...]
