Why I Do / Don’t Like Safari Reader

By Christopher Price on November 10, 2010

Safari Reader has been out for awhile. Some of the dust has settled, and Apple has tweaked the product a bit since it was initially rolled out in Safari 5. As the owner of a publishing company, I have some problems with Safari Reader. They run deeper than profit motives however. First, Safari Reader bypasses [...]

    Safari 4: Whoa.

By Christopher Price on February 28, 2009

For the first time, I’ve found a web browser that makes Web 2.0 apps feel like desktop ones. And, that browser is Safari 4. Safari 4 may lack all those community plugins, a point for which Safari is constantly critisized. But, that’s because people take Safari for granted. That’s right. People take for granted that [...]

MobileMe Lacks Web Bookmarks: Sales Tactic?

By Christopher Price on July 13, 2008

Along with MobileMe’s launch came the lack of a feature that was in .Mac: Web Bookmark access. Now, most would say that Apple’s primary excuse for gutting the feature would be that most people didn’t use it. And, I’m sure parsing sync data to display bookmarks in a web format might have taken some adaptation [...]

Apple Software Update Fixes Mozilla Objection

Apple Software Update Fixes Mozilla Objection

By Christopher Price on April 18, 2008

While I wrote that Apple didn’t need to fix the Mozilla Objection (where Apple began offering up Safari to users via Apple Software Update on Windows)… it appears they went ahead and fixed it anyways. Under the new version, released alongside Safari 3.1.1, Apple Software Update 2.1 for Windows now separates new software and updates. As [...]

    Safari is Marketing, not Malware

By Christopher Price on March 22, 2008

A long, long time ago, I was having lunch with some Apple folk and engineers. I noted Safari for Windows, which at the time was top, top secret… and folks started to turn their heads away from the table when they heard I knew about it. I also noted how I was 100% sure that [...]

    Safari 3.1, A Good Thing

    Safari 3.1, A Good Thing

By Christopher Price on March 18, 2008

Safari 3.1 is out. This update makes a couple of big changes. First, Safari for Windows is now out of beta. Second, it brings Windows, Mac (Tiger & Leopard) builds into true sync… oh, and by sync, I mean they’re all much faster and in parity with one-another. I’ve been testing Safari 3.1 since it [...]

Dashboard Suggestion: Get Safari to Plug It

By Christopher Price on January 19, 2008

Unfortunately, this suggestion may have to wait for a major upgrade to Mac OS X, I hope though that it doesn’t. To push RSS, developers got together and designed something called a “link rel”, which is a line of code telling the internet where the RSS feed is for a web page. The user typically [...]
