Unfortunately, time is running out for the Crunchies. They’re a week past-due with announcing the nominees, one of which may be MechaWorks.
First, the Crunchies team announced that voting would begin last Monday. Then, they announced that voting was delayed, but would begin before the end of the week. Well, next week started… yesterday. Still no nominees. Still no voting.
It’s hard for me to say what the reason is, but it is starting to shine some light on a very unpleasant part of the Crunchies, namely, the ability for the nominating committee to reject anyone… for any reason. We asked, and thousands of you nominated MechaWorks daily. Now, we have no idea if we’re going to make the cut, and worse, we have no idea what the tally was.
I don’t care if we got five votes or five million. I’m sure the number lies somewhere in-between. But, there is an ongoing stream of people on the Crunchies’ own blog that are calling the award a sham in its second year.
My suggestion to the Crunchies would be to post the nomination tallies. If there are any suspicions of fraud, or any reasons to reject a nominee at this point… they need to be stated, to the public. That is the only way I can see this being resolved at this point… I know we’ll certainly have an awkward feeling if MechaWorks is absent from the nomination list otherwise… one we’ll have to share with readers (like, well, right now).
On a more personal level, this is causing havok on my schedule. I have no idea if I can make meetings at CES, because I have no idea if I will be at half of CES, because I may be at the Crunchies or not. It’s at the point where I may have to miss the award ceremony, even if we do wind up being nominated at MechaWorks. This is not something trivial, it’s messing up a lot of people’s travel plans…
I know I’m going out on a limb here, being that the nominations aren’t even posted yet, and they can certainly bonk MechaWorks… but I feel that with it being a week late, this post should go out now, rather than look like a disgruntled non-nominee if something goes wrong later.
