Just wanted to give folks an update on the progression of the CompUSA shutdown. I’ve been told that things will continue as normal at least until January. Commissions will be payed to vendors and returns will be accepted.
After the holidays are done however, the stores will be handed off to a third-party that will cut the stores to pieces. Expect the return policies to terminate then.
I know this was pretty much what most expected (based on the previous wave of CompUSA closings), but at least you can feel okay buying stuff from CompUSA.com in time for Christmas…
Update: CompUSA has done a bit of an about-face, setting up a new web site detailing the shutdown, and instituting a new “all sales final” after Devember 12th policy. Couple of interesting notes arise. One, CompUSA.com does not link to the site. Two, CompUSA.com return policies do not make any note of this.
This has led me to start thinking that management is attempting to salvage CompUSA.com as an online-only retail venture. I’ll look into it…
