Deal: Sega Portable Genesis – $24.96 After Coupon (TecToy, 2016 Edition)

Dollar General today has the 2016 Edition Sega Portable Genesis for half off Amazon and Toys R Us with promo code VET16. Made by TecToy, which is a Brazilian company that not only got Sega to license them the Genesis brand/platform for their emulated consoles… but allows them to pack in an SD card slot for unencrypted .smd/.bin ROM compatibility.

Needless to say, I’ve been a fan of TecToy for years. This is a great deal and I just picked one up myself. Better than Black Friday, in all likelihood. Just $24.96 and ground shipping is free even in states/regions where Dollar General does not have stores.

Brazil is very important in the Sega community. Latin America was where the Sega Master System was extremely popular, even after Game Gear (the portable version of Master System) was being phased out. TecToy came in to fill the void, amid a very popular software piracy community. Which normally is a bad thing, but did net us some of the first beta leaks of Sonic 2, which led to the modern-day Sonic hacking community.
