For some weird reason, Leopard ships with HP AiO 4.0, while HP AiO 4.0.1 has been available since October.
Even weirder, some Leopard systems pick up the update when running Apple Software Update, while some don’t. And, that’s even taking into account an HP all-in-one printer added to the systems.
Finally, weirdest, Apple doesn’t offer a direct download, nor does HP. Since Apple Software Update is the only way to get it, this means it’s sometimes not an option to download (like, when your system doesn’t pick it up).
So, to wrap all this up, I’ve uploaded a zipped copy of the installer here to download. If you have an HP all-in-one, download the update from the link below:
Hello everybody,
You forgot the weirdest thing of all!!
The software wouldn’t let s scan any more. Everywhere on the net you can find complaining people who lost the scan possibility but complete silence for solutions. Maybe there is a hidden update too for this option??
Peter
HP generally cuts scan support from next-generation OS upgrades. Vista users found the ability to scan was gutted from the updated drivers as well.
HP’s solution with the all-in-ones is simply to scan from the device itself, and transfer to memory card. Certainly not elegant, and certainly meant to sell more/newer all-in-ones.
I can install the HP AiO 5610 using a usb but if I install with airport express – there is no driver – not even an option for the AiO 4.0.1
I’ve found with AirPort Extreme, that you have to first install via USB (to get the driver loaded), then move to the AP Extreme. Bonjour takes it from there.
Now, as to scanning and other multifunction (AIO stuff) functionality… none of that works with an AirPort Extreme from what I’ve seen.
For those who are having trouble scanning with their HP AiO machines:
I had that problem yesterday. The HP printer/scanner/copier/fax was connected to an Apple Time Capsule via Ethernet. I could print wirelessly but not scan, always getting an error from HP along the lines of “could not connect to the AiO.” Interestingly, if I pulled up a web page with the AiO’s IP address I could click a “scan” button on the page and make it work. Hmmm.
I was able to trace the problem to an Airport update. I was on 7.4.1. 7.4.2 did not solve the problem but rolling back to 7.3.2 did. Shocking. I know that the 7.4.1 and 7.4.2 Airport updates were Apple’s, so technically they’re the ones who broke things, but I still blame HP for drivers that are so shaky that an Airport update can break them.
