CES, Macworld ’09, Overlapping as Usual

Great, Engadget has just noted that Macworld has put up their “see you next year” sign (as they do every year), and guess what? the two shows overlap yet again.

This time Macworld will begin before CES (that’s something new), but CES begins on the 8th where Macworld begins on the 5th. Macworld ends on the 9th, but you basically have to leave on the 7th to get to CES for the opening…

So…

1/4 – Arive in S.F. to cover Macworld
1/5 – Macworld Keynote, first day of show
1/6 – One day of full Macworld coverage
1/7 – Leave for airport to get to CES
1/8 – Start covering CES…

Now, covering Macworld isn’t a big deal to do in 48 hours… I don’t know how people find new stuff to do for four days straight (though it does handle with the crowd management, you can start throwing out free passes in the latter half of the show and let the general public in). But, the main problem is packing. Now, instead of having two brief expos, you have to pack… and lug around… clothes and travel gear for an entire week. Not fun, and ensuring checked bags at the airport.

This isn’t rocket science to put a week in-between these two shows. The only real excuse Apple and CEA could make is if the Las Vegas Convention Center was booked years in advance, which can happen, but with this being planned years in advance… it’s something foreseeable.
