HD-DVD Lives… in China

Published by Christopher Price on March 5, 2008 | Leave a response

I like HD-DVD. I don’t like oppressive regimes.  So, I have mixed feelings that China and Toshiba have teamed up for CH-DVD. CH-DVD is essentially HD-DVD with slightly different encryption. There’s no difference in the discs or way the discs are played other than that. The difference is, it will win the format war in […]

Apple, Go to CTIA

Published by Christopher Price on March 3, 2008 | Leave a response

One thing that bugs me about Apple’s insertion into the phone industry, is their snubbing of CTIA. I can sort of understand last year, Apple not wanting to provide live demos of iPhone at the show. The device was unfinished, and Apple is against showing off unfinished products to the public. However, this year, not […]

Apple Neutering AirPort Extreme to Sell Time Capsule?

Published by Christopher Price on March 3, 2008 | 2 Responses

Mac OS X 10.5.2 is now out, and it has some very upsetting things about it in regards to Time Machine. Specifically, while 10.5.2 will happily talk to Apple’s Time Capsule, it still has problems with network-based shares on all other platforms. That includes AirPort Disk, Windows Shares, and Mac OS X network shares. Here’s […]

Netscape Pulls Firefox Theme (Updated)

Published by Christopher Price on March 2, 2008 | Leave a response

As expected and previously announced, Netscape Browser marked its end yesterday. The browser has been removed from download by AOL. Now, Netscape did promise to keep the components that made Netscape different from Mozilla Firefox available for download… but did they? The answer appears to be (at least partially), no. Netstripe, the official theme for […]

MacBook Air vs 12-inch PowerBook G4

It’s time for the big fight everyone has been waiting for… pitting a new MacBook Air against a three-year-old 12-inch PowerBook G4. Notice, when Apple launched the MacBook Air, they did not compare it to the product it was perceived to have replaced. Users have been clamoring Apple to make a 12-inch MacBook Pro since […]
