Chitika: It Floats!

Over at PhoneNews.com, we’ve been doing a test of Chitika advertising. Many have asked me how to advertise more, while bombarding readers less.

A good chunk of PhoneNews.com readers find the site via a search engine. I won’t break down the numbers, but for any web site with good search engine optimization (SEO), that’s going to be a relatively higher-than-normal number. And, a good chunk of those readers are passers-by. They tune in, read a single article, and then bounce back to their search engine.

Chitika targets those readers. What they do, is run additional ads, which will only show when someone visits your site from a search engine. These ads are a “mini mall” typically featuring products from online retailers. Those products are derived from the content on the page.

It’s really a no-lose situation. Viewers that hang around will see the ads vanish within a few visits. Those that were passers-by, well, you just made some more money off of their visit. How much more money? Again, I don’t like giving numbers, but for a moderately sized site, you’ll certainly make a few bucks a day. We’re making much more from it, it’s certainly here to stay.

Believe it or not, Chitika premium is waaaay outperforming Google Adsense for me. Adsense is averaging like .03 – .10 per click with a much lower eCPM but Chitika is smoking with eCPM’s about 600% higher and average clicks logging at .30-.90 and this is on the same blog where I’m alternating ads.

all I can say is that I’m more than pleasantly suprised.

    That’s amazing, a .3-.9% CTR!

for adsense i’m only getting about a .13% clickthrough rate!

Maybe I should invest some time and effort into Chikita 😀

Are they compatible with each other, can they be used on the same pages.

Yes, Chitika is compatible with AdSense.

But, they really are non-rival to begin with. Chitika is going after people who find your site via a search engine.

AdSense, on the other hand, is a traditional ad network. It’s in your interest to use both.

Of course, it’s a legitimate review… I didn’t get anything from Chitika to write it, nor would I have taken anything for the review.

We continue to use Chitika on MechaWorks sites, they’re a good performer on otherwise under-performing pages.

I am not aware of a workaround for Chitika, other than disabling JavaScript in your web browser. However, I will pass this along to Chitika. It may be possible for them to add some sort of command to tell speech software to bypass the text.

Thought it wasn’t possible before to add AdSense + Chitika, but now seen that everyone is virtually putting the 2 together online and making more money =)

What about free download software? Apart from having Chitika on my free software download site, what other ad company can I include to generate money?

    Thanks in advance
