Apple Pulls Lion, OS X Server for Lion from Mac App Store — Underscores Flaw with App Store Exclusives

Published by Christopher Price on July 26, 2012 | Leave a response

Now that Mountain Lion has shipped, Apple has shipped OS X Server for Mountain Lion. And it comes at a great new price, only $19.99. I think that’s great. What I don’t think is great, is that Apple now refuses to even sell OS X Server for OS X 10.7 Lion. Because of driver bugs, […]

Lenovo RapidDrive: The Wrong Way to Hybrid Drive SSD & HDD

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y560p. It’s one of about a dozen or so notebooks from Lenovo that use Lenovo’s “exclusive” RapidDrive technology. I hate it. I’ll explain why it’s a bad way to go.

Seagate Discontinues GoFlex eSATA Adapter Cable

Published by Christopher Price on July 8, 2012 | 4 Responses

On one of my recent check-ins with PR folks, I remembered to ask Seagate about the Powered eSATA adapter for their GoFlex line of drives. It has been out of stock everywhere for months, and I’ve actually been trying to get my hands on one. Like many, one of my laptops has USB 2.0, and […]

Making the Mac mini More Portable

Making the Mac mini More Portable

The newer, thinner Mac mini is small-and-light enough that it could be converted into a portable machine, Ben Heck style. So, I had an idea: Craft a portable enclosure for the Mac mini, that provides display, keyboard, and trackpad… and is cheap enough to be mass-produced! Think about it. The Mac mini i5 2.5 GHz […]

Apple Unibody MacBook Case Crack Warranty Extension — Expanded?

Published by Christopher Price on July 7, 2012 | 2 Responses

In my last article, I noted that Apple was providing undocumented case crack warranty extension for the 13-inch Unibody (Late 2009 & Late 2010) MacBook models. Specifically, Apple replaced the entire display on my two-plus-year-old machine when hairline cracks formed around the display hinges. Indeed, cracks have now formed around the 3, E, and D […]

I’m Back!

Published by Christopher Price on July 6, 2012 | 2 Responses

You may or may not have seen my last post on PhoneNews.com. To make a long story short, I ultimately had a couple of adjustments done, related to the Class III malocclusion of my jaw. Things should be good to go for the next decade. When understaffed, and dealing with real life, there isn’t always […]

Please Apple, Offer to Disable Versions & Auto-save

Published by Christopher Price on June 22, 2012 | Leave a response

I’ve tried valiantly, since the day OS X Lion was released, to get used to Versions. And, I can’t take it anymore. I finally penned Apple a passionate request to offer an off switch. I do totally understand why Apple does not want to offer an off switch. Apple wants Mac users to get used […]

Of CVS, Return Policies, and Clouseout Items

Published by Christopher Price on June 15, 2012 | 1 Response

I discover a bug in CVS’s return policy. Unfortunately, it took my credit card company to implement a fix. Several weeks ago, I catch on the deal chatter that CVS is selling DTV handheld televisions for only $20. I figured these would be low-quality, Chinese designed-and-built units. But, for the price, I figured why not? […]

Media Center Product Key - Windows 8 Release Preview

I mostly added this post for easy reference for myself, but here it is for everyone else too. To add Media Center to the Windows 8 Release Preview, install Windows 8 completely. Then, log in and go to Desktop. Open up Control Panel from the Desktop and go to Windows Update. In the bottom left […]

Vintage Phones I’ll Buy

Published by Christopher Price on June 6, 2012 | 2 Responses

Being in the wireless industry for basically a decade already, there are a few phones out there that I just have an affinity to. Of course, a few of them aren’t exactly easy to get. As such, if you have any of the phones, below, get in touch with me, and let’s see if we […]
