NewsGator Goes Free for Consumers

Published by Christopher Price on January 10, 2008 | Leave a response

NewsGator took a big step forward this week, making all their consumer products free. As a professional news watcher (it’s part of my job description), I bought into NewsGator, over free RSS products. I have to pass through thousands of articles a day to stay on the top of the game… and that means I […]

Yes, the new Mac Pro has Bluetooth

Published by Christopher Price on January 8, 2008 | 1 Response

One thing you may not notice from the Apple Store page for the newly-released Mac Pro is references to Bluetooth. In putting up the pages on the store-side, they forgot to note Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR. Rest assured, it’s there, it’s just now an included feature. It’s listed on the official tech specs page.

Gmail IMAP can be Missing Messages

Published by Christopher Price on January 8, 2008 | 12 Responses

Here’s something troubling I’ve run into over the past 24 hours. I was moving someone over to the free Google Apps for your Domain setup, which provides free Gmail services @yourdomain.com. The client had an iPhone and wanted to move away from POP3 to an IMAP environment. Sounds straightforward, right? So I thought, I had […]

Xbox 360 Mediaroom IPTV: Just One Problem

Published by Christopher Price on January 7, 2008 | 2 Responses

A year later, we still don’t have Xbox 360 Mediaroom (Microsoft’s version of IPTV). For the second CES keynote, Microsoft has touted the feature, spotlighting British Telecom as the first to roll of the feature… just not right now. But, perpetual delay is not the problem with Xbox 360 IPTV (for me, at least). The […]

Windows Home Server Power Pack 1

Published by Christopher Price on January 7, 2008 | Leave a response

Microsoft today announced Power Pack 1 for Windows Home Server (WHS). The term “Power Pack” is a new one for Microsoft, but the WHS team is using it for an important reason; unlike the typical Service Packs released from the company, this update adds major new features. As I reviewed the initial release of Windows […]

WordPress & .html Part 3

Published by Christopher Price on January 5, 2008 | Leave a response

In the last two parts (Part 1 and Part 2) of using WordPress and the .html extension in permalinks, I’ve outlined the pros and the cons. Well, after a lot of testing, I’ve found a reason why you should probably avoid it. When adding .html to the end of permalinks, the post slug behavior is […]

Spaces and .Mac Sync Bug – Lost Windows

Published by Christopher Price on January 3, 2008 | Leave a response

Apple has posted a support article confirming that if you use .Mac Sync and Spaces, you might lose windows. Basically, the bug occurs if two computers have Spaces, but different Spaces settings. Say, one computer has two spaces, and the other has four. If one computer has a window in fourth space, it won’t show […]

No CES for Me This Year

Published by Christopher Price on January 1, 2008 | Leave a response

Sorry, I won’t be at CES ’08. I didn’t realize that Macworld Expo and CES didn’t overlap this year (it is the first time they haven’t overlapped… that I can remember right now). Not foreseeing that, I already locked in other plans for next week… oh well, hopefully this will stick and I can attend […]

Price Protectr – Best of Web for 2007

Published by Christopher Price on January 1, 2008 | 1 Response

Putting PhoneNews.com aside, I think it’s best to highlight the best thing in consumer advocacy to be released in 2007. 2007 saw the creation of the Phone Encyclopedia on PhoneNews.com, but obiously, I’m a bit partial to opening new worlds of wiki-driven contribution, especially when I own them. And, with that, I have to say […]
